Time out for Daddy!

We are always telling Kailie that if she makes McKean cry then she has to go to timeout. 

Seeing as she is constantly bugging him, she spends a lot of time in time out! 

Well we now know where she gets it from!!

We were at the airport on our way to Utah over Christmas. I would blow toward  him and then there would be a delay for a second until the wind hit him and he would suck in and then smile. 

It was so cute, I just had to share!!

What's in a Name

 

People are always asking about McKean's name, where we came up with it, etc.  So I thought I would share.

For starters McKean is Jared's middle name. When we first got pregnant with Kailie we talked about the name McKean for a boy and over the past three years the name really grew on us.

 But the name Mckean goes back a lot further than that! Jared's paternal Grandma Lillian's maiden Name is McKean! When we were in Utah over Christmas Jared's dad Jack shared with us a presentation he had put together for his class about four families and how they were apart of WWII. It was a really awesome presentation and I learned a lot about Jared's extended family. It was also really great to learn more about the name McKean and the people we named our son after.

 This is Jared's grandparents families. Bob McKean is the man focused on in this presentation.

 

 Sounds like a great man to me.

 

  The name also goes back even further.

 There is a McKean who signed The Declaration of Independence and while we were in Boston last year we came across this sign at the entrance to Harvard University! We don't know if we are related but still cool to see!
His middle name Austin is after the City here in Texas. A city which we had never really been too but we wanted to continue like Kai and give a middle name that has something do with where they were born. Antonio just didn't seem right nor do we love this city.  We just went to Austin this past weekend and  I loved it. It is a really cool place and I am glad we gave him that name. We debated between McKean Austin or McKean Gardner after my maiden name but we thought three last names was a little much. So we better have another boy so we can give him the middle name Gardner. 

 So that is where we got McKean's name.
I Love it and hope he does as well.

 He's got some big shoes to fill!

Blessing Day!

We blessed this sweet little Man on Sunday January 1st, 2012 at Jack and Carolyn's house. 

We decided just like Kai's blessing that we wanted to do it at the house instead of at a ward that is not our own! It is always so nice to be able to spend time with our family and friends.

We were so excited to have Chris and Rachel Haines there. They were our dear friends in Hawaii and we love spending time with them. It just worked out that we were both in Utah over Christmas. So great to hang out with them a few times!  Rachel is seriously my idol someday I wish to be like her and every time we are together I always pick her brain about nutrition. She is the expert and I trust her whole-heartily!

Kai loves spending time with them as well. Especially Chris.

Everyone was so concerned about getting Kailie to look and smile that we got a great one of her but everyone else is looking at her. Go figure. It was so nice to have Jim and Debbie  and Myrna and Keith there. I love spending time with them and miss them all so much!

Everytime I see this photo it just reminds me of something that happened. We were standing here talking and McKean started to get fussy so I grabbed his Binki and when I went to give it to him I accidentally went to put in Carolyn's mouth instead. So funny!! I don't know what I was thinking!

The Lord wishes to bless you and for you to understand the many gifts and blessings you’ve been given.

Understand your namesake because you’ve come from a line of great men and women.

Bless you with discernment between right and wrong, good and evil, and seek to choose the better path.

Bless you to serve a mission honorably and prepare in your youth and teen years and be an example to your friends.

Kai had a blast in Utah with all the Cousins and friends.
