New Year's Eve was spent hanging out with the Theler Clan!
Here Cam and McKayla are baking some cakes while Kai watches.

Then we all went bowling. I think it is safe to say that everyone had a good time.

Moving to the Big One!

Photo taken from here
We have been so anxious ever since we moved here to find out where we would be going next. Originally we thought we would go to one of the big Army Medical Teaching Hospitals which are in D.C., Seattle, Hawaii and San Antonio. But then in September when Jared met the the guy in charge of all the placement he said all the big hospitals were full and that we would be going to a smaller hospital. So we have been patiently waiting  for the list of the potential spots which we were supposed to get back in January which they then said it would be sent out in February so we have been going crazy waiting. There is just something about not knowing where you will be living in five months that is really unnerving. Then Jared goes to a conference where he  runs into a graduating Chief Resident from D.C who tells him that she got the wish list a couple of weeks ago and has already been assigned to Fort Bragg in North Carolina which was one place we were hoping to go so of course Jared was way frustrated that the people who are below him in rank had already been assigned places and we hadn't even had a chance to put in our wish list.

We decided that either A) they forgot about us or B) they already had assigned us a place with out giving us a choice and well the correct answer was both. They already had assigned us without any choice and then they forgot to email us and tell us.  You gotta love the Army. Anyways, we have been assigned to San Antonio, TX. Which was a huge shock. They have never had an Army fellowship trained doctor so we thought we would for sure not go there. We always seems to think wrong.

Jared is way excited because his best friend lives there and is also an Army Doc. I am on the fence. I don't really know anything about the place and I am kind of sad that I will once again be in place where there are no seasons. Summer is my favorite season but the reason I love summer so much is because it follows winter and that just makes it so much better.
Besides the weather I think I will like it there and I know we will make good friends and that the ward there is really great. So we are off again to another adventure.

Bringing back the Valentine

Decorating Sugar cookies or mostly just eating the frosting!
Did anybody else think that Valentines Day was the best holiday as a kid?? I sure did, it definitely tied right up there with Christmas as my favorite. I loved making valentines for friends but my favorite thing was always making the box to collect all of my Valentines in. Of course as I grew Valentines became one of my least favorite holidays so this year with Kai being a little bit older I felt a little of the magic of Valentines I felt as a kid.
We go to play group every week at the church yea it isn't no Relief Society Surf Group but it is fun and we had a valentines party for the kids.
Kailie making her bag to collect her Valentines.
Checking out all the loot!!
Candy and more Candy!!
Kailie has become absolutely obsessed with Toy Story and pretty much begs to watch it everyday so I thought it only fitting to buy here Toy Story Valentines.
I decided last year that Valentines is the holiday that I will make sugar cookies.
Kai loved helping me!

Jared was gone all weekend so we made him some special Valentines cards. This was Kai's first time painting and before she started I painted her hand to make the hand print and then I let her go at it so of course the first thing she does is starts painting her hand. She is so cute but she eventually got the hang of it.

All of the Valentine activity tuckered this little one right out. I was making dinner and turned around to find her like this. I was freaking out because I already couldn't remember how much insulin I had given her, sometimes I just do it with out thinking and then cannot for the life of me recall how much or even if I actually gave her a shot at all. I instantly thought I had given her too much cause she was OUT and I couldn't get her to wake up. After testing her and realizing she was fine I figured she didn't take a nap that day because she wouldn't sleep and then I had given her a bath before dinner and put her in her jammies since she was a mess after painting so she probably just thought it was bed time.  Poor thing. I let her sleep for an hour but then I had to wake her up to eat.

Snoring!!! I have never heard her snore really so she was tired!!

The Dreaded Layer!!

The snow has finally started to melt here this week. Here is the layer that the birds attacked. Of course this is a month old so all the bright green spots are gone. Yes Bright Green, I have no idea why there would be bright green spots all over. They must have eaten something weird. Just thought I would show so you don't all think I am just going crazy here!!
If you click on the photo you can definitely get the full effect!!

Yesterday was gorgeous, sunny blue skies and mid-fifties. We haven't even really seen the forties so fifties was awesome. Kai and I went for a bike ride and then proceeded to play for a couple of hours outside in nothing but plain ole shirts. It was awesome and glorious and I was so excited to see the lawn and the driveway and see all the crappy snow melt and then we woke up and it was all just a dream. There was new snow and big blizzard going on outside!!
I almost got my wish of getting all the gross snow melted. Almost!!!

Winter Wonderland!

I have always said that I love winter as long as there is snow. I hate when it is really cold but there is no snow, what is the fun in that! Well, I definitely have got my wish this winter.
In all my years growing up in Utah I NEVER once had a winter where there was snow on the ground the entire time and not just inches,  I mean at least a foot usually more. I guess technically it all melted while we were in Utah but I didn't see it and when I got home there was just as much as when I left!
Since it starting snowing here back in the first week of December it literally hasn't stopped. Sure we have a day or two where it doesn't snow but then we get a foot overnight or so. It is pure craziness!!

The pile in front of our house has slowly been growing. Here it is tiny and yet back then it seemed like sooo big!
Here it is in January!! Our house is slowly getting hidden!

Here it is this week!!
Don't let the pretty white snow decieve you, really the snow is absolutely disgusting since it has been here for months. One day I left to the store and the back yard was looking all white and pretty and when I returned I found a bombed out completely covered backyard of bird crap. It was the weirdest thing both Jared and I have ever seen. It was all over and it was only in the backyard. Seriously a flock of Hundreds of birds must have flown over and all crapped at the same time. So now we can't play in the back or side because down a few layers of snow is bird pooh. So as much as I love having snow when it is cold I would love for this stuff to melt and then we can get all new clean stuff!

In other news. Our mail box got knocked off by the snow plow so we just plopped it in the snow until we could fix it

Then one day I found that someone fixed it. Come to find out the city did it since they broke it, of course this is just a temporary fix but seems pretty funny that they actually came out and did it with out us even telling them to!

 Our Street!
We have had some pretty sunsets lately, this was yesterdays. It was so blasted cold outside that I was lazy and took the photos through the window and screen.  The icicles here are crazy too. I have never seen icicle like the ones here. We can't even control them and I am sure most of the christmas lights on the roof will be broken by them!

Just in case you wondering what we do inside while it snows all day. Here is a preview!!
I think someone is dreaming of lazy hot summer swimming days!!

I wish I could say we gave it a good effort but

We tried the pump for almost 24 hours and then we were done. Kailie just seemed really bothered by it, she whined all day that it hurt and both Jared and I were having mixed emotions about it so we decided to wait a for more months at least.
In case you were curious what the pump is here it is. It just attaches right to her skin. We think the main problem is she is so stinking skinny that she doesn't have enough fat to make it not hurt. Omni pod the pump company is supposedly coming out with a pump almost half the size of this one at the end of the year so we will probably wait for that.
This one just seems so big and was really noticeable. It wasn't too bad on her rump area but since she is still in diapers she gets pooh on it so we can't put it there, another reason why we will wait till she is older and potty trained.
As she was eating dinner the second day with it on she went to get out of her high chair and ripped it off on accident, it hurt pretty bad and that is when we decided to wait. The bummer thing is we didn't even get to really use it or try it because this one didn't have insulin in it. It was just a demo with saline in it. Oh well, we both have felt at peace since making the decision so I guess it is the right one.
Her baby has been getting shots with Kailie. It was her idea to give it to the baby too!
So back to shots it is but the good news is at least she will be free from having a machine attached to her for at least a few more months. I am going to soak it all in, I love her cute little body just the way it is without anything attached!
